# Customizing a Survey

BAI Analytics lets you tailor the look, language, and security of every survey to match your brand and your audience. All of the settings on this page are editable **at any time**, before or after a survey is published: changes reach respondents on their next page load, and the share link never changes.

Everything here lives in the builder's **Settings** panel, under **Survey Customization** unless noted otherwise. For building the survey itself (questions, conditional logic, AI generation), see [Creating a Survey](/boundaryai-docs/bringing-in-your-feedback/surveys/editor.md). For closing and reopening surveys, organising them inside Feedback Groups, and sending invitations, see [Managing Surveys](/boundaryai-docs/bringing-in-your-feedback/surveys/managing-surveys.md).

### Smart Branding

**Smart Branding** extracts a colour palette from your logo and applies it to your survey, so your branding feels native without you ever opening a colour picker.

#### How it works

1. Under **Upload Company Logo**, upload your organisation's logo (PNG, JPEG, or JPG, **max 250 KB**).
2. BAI Analytics analyses the image and extracts your brand colours.
3. The **Smart Branding Results** screen shows your logo and three palettes: a **Suggested** palette plus **Option 2** and **Option 3**. Hover over a colour to see how it will be used.
4. Pick the palette you prefer and click **Apply Branding**, or choose **Manually Customize** to skip Smart Branding and set the colour yourself.
5. The chosen palette is applied across buttons, highlights, headings, and other accent elements throughout the survey.

You can override the colour after the fact. Smart Branding is a starting point, not a constraint.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Tip.** Use a high-resolution logo with a clean edge for best results. If your logo sits on a coloured or noisy background, click **Remove Background** before extracting colours and compare the before and after versions.
{% endhint %}

You can also adjust the **Logo Size** (small, medium, or large) as it appears at the top of the survey.

### Custom colour

If you would rather pick a brand colour directly, the survey colour field accepts:

* A **HEX code** typed into the input (for example `#6851A7`).
* A colour chosen visually from the colour picker.

The survey colour is the *primary accent*: it drives buttons, progress indicators, headings, and other UI emphasis. Background, borders, and text-on-primary tones are derived from it automatically, so a single colour choice is enough to theme the whole survey consistently. Click **Preview** at any point to see how it looks before publishing.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Tip.** Use the same colour as your website or marketing materials for a unified brand experience.
{% endhint %}

### Survey font

The **Survey font** setting changes the typeface respondents see when they fill out the survey. Choose from **Inter** (the default), **DM Sans**, **Plus Jakarta Sans**, **Sora**, or **Lato**. The font applies to the respondent-facing survey only; it does not change how results are displayed in BAI Analytics.

***

### Post-survey message

The post-survey message is the closing screen respondents see after they submit. By default it reads "Your responses have been recorded." You can replace it with anything more personal.

* In the **Enter Post-Survey Message** field, enter your own copy (up to **300 characters**).
* The message appears on the final screen, in place of the default copy.
* Keep it warm and appreciative to encourage repeat participation, and use it to set expectations about what happens next ("We'll be in touch within a week," "Watch your inbox for results," and so on).

***

### Redirect after completion

Instead of showing the thank-you screen, you can send respondents to a page of your choice once they finish, for example a landing page, a booking form, or your website.

* In **Redirect after completion**, enter an **https\://** URL or a relative path starting with **/**. Anything else is rejected.
* Leave the field blank to keep the thank-you screen and post-survey message.
* The redirect never fires in **Preview**, so you can safely test the survey yourself.

The same option exists separately for the embedded widget (see [Embedding a survey on your website](#embedding-a-survey-on-your-website)), so a survey can behave differently on your site and on its standard link.

### Survey language

The **Survey Language** setting controls the respondent-facing language for built-in UI strings (navigation buttons, validation messages, the default thank-you screen) and tells the analysis layer which language to apply for sentiment and theming on open-ended responses.

Set the language *before* you start translating, since it determines the **source language** of your survey content.

***

### Multilingual surveys

If you need to reach respondents in more than one language, BAI Analytics can publish a single survey in multiple languages from one source.

#### How it works

1. Under **Survey Language**, open **Translations** and click **Add Translation**.
2. Pick the target languages you want to add.
3. Use **Auto Translate** to generate translations for the title, description, every question, every option, the scale labels, and the end message.
4. Click **Review Translation** to check each language side by side, edit anything you want to refine, and **Save Translation**. Once a language is marked **Ready**, respondents can use it.
5. Respondents are routed to the correct language version automatically; analysis still merges into a single view of the data.

You can add or remove languages at any time (removing a translation cannot be undone). After editing the source-language survey, use **Re-translate** to refresh a language.

***

### Passcode protection

For private surveys (closed pilots, employee-only feedback, partner evaluations) you can require a passcode before respondents see any questions.

#### How to set a passcode

1. In **Settings**, toggle **Passcode to answer survey**.
2. Enter a secure passcode in the field that appears.
3. Share the passcode only with the people you want to admit.

The passcode is requested on the survey's landing page; without it, respondents see a prompt instead of the survey content. You can change or remove the passcode at any time without invalidating the survey link.

***

### Embedding a survey on your website

A published survey can run inside your own website instead of on its standalone page. Open the survey's **Settings** and go to the **Embed** tab (the survey must be saved as a draft at least once first).

1. Turn on **Enable Embedding**.
2. Choose how it appears: **Inline** (rendered where you paste the code), **Popup** (a button that opens the survey; set the **Button text**, **Position**, and **Color**), or **iFrame**.
3. Optionally restrict **Allowed domains** to the sites allowed to host the survey (`example.com` or `*.example.com`); leave empty to allow all domains.
4. Toggle the **Progress bar**, **Question numbers**, and **Branding** options, and optionally set a **Redirect after completion** specific to the embedded version.
5. Copy the generated **HTML** snippet into your page.

The embedded survey supports every question type, including dropdowns, rankings, and formatted short answers, and its responses flow into the same analysis as the standard link. Embedding is off by default for every survey until you enable it.

### Resetting customisations

If you want to start over, click **Reset** at the bottom of the customisation panel. This reverts the logo, colour, font, post-survey message, and completion redirect to BAI Analytics' defaults in one action. Language, translations, passcode, and embed settings are not affected.
