# Ask your feedback

**Ask your feedback** is the in-app assistant. Instead of browsing tabs and charts, you type a question in plain language and get a written answer built from your organisation's real feedback data, with numbered citations you can click to see the evidence behind every claim.

It answers three kinds of questions:

* **About your workspace**: "Which feedback group has the most negative feedback?", "How many sources do I have?", "Which monitors fired most this month?"
* **About what customers say**: "What are customers complaining about, in their own words?", "How has sentiment on delivery moved since spring?", "Show me verbatims behind the pricing theme."
* **About what you are looking at**: open a feedback group, a source, a grouped theme or a tracked period and ask "What am I looking at?" or "Summarise this group"; the assistant knows where you are.

The assistant is available when it is enabled for your organisation. If you don't see the launcher described below, contact your BAI Analytics representative.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Real data only.** The assistant reads the same data your dashboards show, for your organisation only, and it never invents figures: every number and quote in an answer is tied to a citation. If it finds nothing that answers your question, it says so instead of guessing. It is read-only and never changes anything in your workspace.
{% endhint %}

### Opening the assistant

A round assistant button sits in the **bottom-right corner** of every page once you are signed in (it is not shown on sign-in pages or on the public survey-response pages).

* Click the button to open the assistant as a **docked window** in the corner. The page underneath stays usable, so you can keep the chart you are asking about in view.
* **Expand to full page** turns it into a centred, full-size conversation; **Collapse to chat window** brings it back to the corner.
* **Minimize** collapses the window into a small bubble above the launcher. Your conversation is kept, and an answer that finishes while you are minimised makes the bubble pulse.
* **Close** hides it. Your conversations are saved (see [Conversations](#conversations)), so nothing is lost.

If you follow a link from an answer while in full-page mode, the assistant drops back to the docked window so you can read the destination page with the conversation still at hand.

### Asking a question

Type in the box at the bottom (*Ask anything about your feedback*) and press **Enter** to send; **Shift+Enter** adds a line break. Questions can be up to 2,000 characters; a counter appears as you approach the limit.

When a conversation is empty, the assistant offers a few **suggested questions** under *Try one of these*, tailored to the page you are on. Click one to send it as is.

While the assistant works you see what it is doing, step by step: *Listing your sources…*, *Reading the grouped themes…*, *Reading the feedback…*, *Looking at sentiment over time…*, *Looking up your monitors…*, *Pulling the theme's verbatims…*. Each step turns into a check mark as it completes, then the answer streams in. Click **Stop generating** if you want to interrupt a long answer.

Sentiment is expressed the way the dashboard does it (*Very negative* to *Very positive*); figures appear when you ask for comparisons or changes.

### Citations and where they lead

Answers carry small **numbered citation chips**. Click one to open a card showing the evidence:

* For a **comment**, the verbatim itself, its sentiment, its date, the source it came from and its feedback group, with a **View in Evidence** button that opens the source's Raw Data tab with that comment in focus.
* For a **feedback group**, **source**, **grouped theme** or **monitor**, the record's name and a short stat line, with a button to open it: **Open feedback group**, **Open source**, **Open grouped themes**, **Open Custom Monitoring**. A theme from a tracked period opens in that period.
* For a **report** citation, **Open report**.

Every citation points at something that exists in your workspace; the assistant drops any reference it cannot back with real data.

### Conversations

Every exchange is saved as a conversation, private to you. Click **Show conversations** in the window header to open the side panel:

* **Recent conversations** are grouped by *Today*, *Yesterday*, *Last 7 days* and *Older*. Click one to reopen it and keep going; the assistant remembers the earlier turns.
* **New conversation** starts a fresh thread. Use it when you change subject, so earlier context doesn't colour the next answer.
* **Rename** a conversation to something you will recognise later.
* **Delete** removes it from your side panel. A deleted conversation can still be opened from a saved link, but no new messages can be added to it.

Your choice of showing or hiding the side panel is remembered.

### Rating and reusing answers

Under each answer:

* **Helpful answer** / **Not helpful** thumbs send feedback that helps the BAI Analytics team improve the assistant.
* **Copy answer to clipboard** copies the answer as clean text, without the citation markers.

### Limits and messages you may see

* **"That took longer than allowed."** A question that spans your whole workspace can exceed the time budget. Narrow it to one feedback group or one theme and ask again.
* **"You're going a bit fast."** Questions are rate-limited per user; the message shows a countdown before you can send the next one.
* **"The assistant is busy right now."** Too many people are asking at the same moment; try again in a few seconds.
* **"I could not put an answer together this time."** Retry or rephrase; nothing is lost.
* One answer at a time: the box is locked while an answer is streaming.
* Demo organisations can open the assistant and browse conversations but cannot send questions.

### Tips for good questions

* **Name the scope.** "In the Support tickets group, what drives negative sentiment?" beats "What's wrong?"
* **Ask for verbatims when you want proof.** "Give me three quotes about late deliveries" returns comment citations you can open one by one.
* **Ask about change, not just state.** "How did sentiment on onboarding move between Q1 and Q2?" uses the tracked periods you already have.
* **Start a new conversation when you change topic.** Follow-ups are read in the context of the current thread.
